Come and join us on Wednesday 17th May from 10am-2pm in the Wokingham Market Place at our annual fundraising plant sale! There will be loads of amazing plants to chose from and there will be volunteers and staff there to talk to about what we do and how you can support us. 

 

Events in 2016

Christmas lunch 2016!!

For the third year running, staff and volunteers had their annual Christmas lunch at the Reading Moat House at Sindlesham on Monday 5th December. As always, it was such a fun event and a great opportunity to get everyone together.

                                                          

The Wokingham Volunteer Centre's 2nd Annual Meeting - Wednesday 23rd November 2016

The event was well attended by staff, volunteers, charities and local dignitaries. It was a chance to let everyone know about the fantastic work the charity does and say thanks to those who support us. Many thanks to all those who attended.

Volunteer Recruitment Fair, Wokingham - Saturday 8th October

We had excellent attendance this year with over 120 people through the door. The charities had a chance to talk to the general public, recruit volunteers and raise awareness of their charities. A great success all round!

 

               

 

Volunteer Recruitment Fair, Woodley - Saturday 28th May

We held a Volunteer Recruitment Fair in Woodley which over 25 charities and organisations based in Woodley and Earley attended at the Oakwood Centre. Turnout was good and most of the charities who attended managed to recruit some great volunteers!

 

Book 'n' Bake Sale - Thursday 3rd March

Thanks to all those who came along to support us at our Book 'n' Bake sale at the Bradbury Centre on Thursday 3rd March. It was a huge success and we raised over £200 for the Wokingham Volunteer Centre!

 

                                                                            

2015

The 1st Annual Meeting of The Wokingham Volunteer Centre (CIO) was held on Tuesday 17th November, 2015 from 11.45am at Wokingham Town Hall.  The meeting included presentations on our work by our project and was followed by a light buffet lunch.

 

                                          

 

 The Wokingham Volunteer centre is now a CIO

On September 30th, 2015, Wokingham Volunteer Centre closed as a charity (registered number 275933).  Our new organisation, The Wokingham Volunteer Centre, opened for business next day on October 1st, 2015, as a charitable incorporated organisation (registered number 1161498).

All our projects and services will continue exactly as usual, as this is an administrative change to a new charitable structure offered by the Charity Commission.  As such, The Wokingham Volunteer Centre will be better equipped to face future challenges and to continue to deliver essential services to Wokingham Borough and our valued service users.


Book and Bake Sale

We made £155 for the Volunteer Centre and spoke to many people about the great work the Centre does. Thanks to everyone who came along on the day and a huge thanks to all who made the cakes - they were very yummy!

 

The Plant Sale

The Green ‘n’ Tidy Gardening Scheme held a fundraising plant sale on Wednesday 20th May 10am- 2pm, in Market Place, Wokingham.
We raised £444 which will go towards our hardship fund. Thanks so much to all those who provided plants, helped the manned stall on the day and those who bought the plants of course!

Our Christmas Lunch

We held our annual lunch for our staff, volunteers and trustees on Monday 8th December at the Moat House at Sindlesham Mill. It is always a great opportunity to get everyone together and say thanks for their hard work. 





Quiz night -Thursday 6th October



We held a quiz night on Thursday 6th October at the Cornerstone in Wokingham. It was a hugely successful evening and we raised £660 for the Volunteer Centre!! Thanks for everyone who supported us. Knox's Wonders (see below) were the winners!!!





Volunteer Recruitment Fair - Saturday 11th October



Our biggest recruitment event of the year took place on Saturday 11th October at the Bradbury Centre, Rose Street in Wokingham Town Centre from 10am-1pm. We had 28 local organisations attend who want to recruit volunteers and raise awareness of their cause. It was a great day and we had over 100 potential volunteers through the door!

 

 

 

 

AGM - Tuesday 23rd September



We held our 41st Annual General Meeting on Tuesday 23rd September at the Wokingham Town Hall. It was very well attended as always. Thanks to everyone for their support!  



“The Lairy Bikers” at the Wokingham Bikeathon- Sunday 22nd June



Helena Badger and Libby Lewis took part in the Wokingham Bikeathon and completed the 35 mile route in just over two and a half hours! Thank so much to all those who donated. We raise £500 for the centre!



                                                    



 

Book and Bake – Wednesday 18th June- Wokingham Market Place



We had a very successful day and made £245! Thanks to everyone who came along on the day and a huge thanks to all who made the cakes - they were amazing!



                                                            





Green 'n' Tidy Plant Sale - Wednesday 14th May



Green 'n' Tidy had stall at the Wokingham Town Centre Market and it was a highly successful day where we managed to raise over £400 for the scheme. A huge thanks to all the volunteers who helped on the day and everyone who donated plants for us to sell.



WVC is 40 years old!



On Wednesday 26th March, we held a party at Wokingham Town Hall to say thank you to our supporters past and present. It was a fantastic day!

 

         
 

 

 

       


2013 news stories



October 2013 - Volunteer Recruitment Fair 2013!!




Our biggest event of the year has just taken place A big thank you to everyone to came along to support our highly successful Volunteer Recruitment Fair on Saturday 12th October. It was attended by over 20 charities and organisations looking to recruit volunteers and raise awareness of what they do. Between 150 and 200 members of the public attended.

 

 

 

National Volunteers Week - June 2013



We held a drop in coffee morning to celebrate National Volunteers Week on Thursday 6th June at the Bradbury Centre . It was a very successful morning and we spoke to lots of new volunteers and managed to raise over £200 to help the centre. Thanks to everyone who was involved.



April 2013 - Peter runs the Paris Marathon and The Green 'n' Tidy Plant sale!




Congratulations to Peter Kitteridge who completed the Paris Marathon on Sunday, April 7th in a time of 3 hours and 40 minutes! All sponsorship funds raised went to the Volunteer Centre.  Peter’s wife, Wendy, is on the Board of Trustees at the Centre, so it is a cause close to his heart. 

 

 

 

On Wednesday 17th April we held a plant sale in Wokingham Town Centre (at the outdoor market) to help raise funds for our Green 'n' Tidy Gardening Scheme. We raised over £230 for our hardship fund!! A huge thanks go to the volunteers, who gave up their time to man the stall. Thanks to everyone who came along to support.



January 2013 - Donation from Wokingham West Forest Round Table



A big thank you to the Wokingham West Forest Round Table, who have just donated £600 to our Town Mobility Scheme! It will make a massive difference to us and the people who the scheme support.

2012 news stories



December 2012 - Wokingham Volunteer Centre receives the Queens Award for Voluntary Service




Staff and Trustees of the centre attended a ceremony on Thursday 13th December at Wellington college where the seven Berkshire recipients of the 2012 accolade were presented with their awards and certificates.
